Mission Muralismo Film Night Part 1
This evening in the highly acclaimed Mission Muralismo Cultural Encounters series at the de Young will feature two stellar examples of films focused on underground spray and tag work that has dominated for decades in Mission style, with and without permission. Both films, one a feature narrative and the other an indie doc, expose the raw and edgy thrill of the Mission graffiti world, achievements, risks, bonds and impact. Mission District artists have influenced graffiti around the world. Both Piece by Piece and Quality of Life popularize the Mission graffiti scene globally.
This evening honoring the films and the featured artists is a gathering of the many generations and stylists of Mission graffiti. Filmmakers Nic Hill, Benjamin Morgan, and Brant Smith, and some of the featured artists will be present for a Q&A following the films.
